Buyee Wallet: How to Pay for High-Value Items via Wise

What is Buyee Wallet and When Should You Use It?

Buyee Wallet is a specialized payment method offered by Buyee for high-value purchases—specifically, for items priced over 900,000 yen (not including service fees). Instead of relying on a credit card, which may have spending limits or get flagged by banks, Buyee Wallet allows you to pre-load funds via Wise (formerly TransferWise), a fast and affordable international money transfer service.

This method is especially useful for international buyers purchasing luxury goods or bulk orders. Once you deposit funds into your Buyee Wallet, they can be used directly for bidding or ordering without triggering payment rejections or approval delays.

Setting Up Wise and Making Your First Deposit

To use Buyee Wallet, you’ll first need to register and verify your identity with Wise. Once verified, follow these steps to make your initial deposit:

  1. Sign up for a Wise account and complete the identity verification process.
  2. Add Buyee as a recipient:
    • Currency: JPY (Japanese Yen)
    • Recipient Type: Business
    • Email: wise@buyee.jp
  3. Add your personal bank account to Wise (to receive any future refunds).

After setup, go to your Buyee account and click on "Deposit Funds" in the Buyee Wallet section. Specify the amount you want to deposit, set an expiration period (up to 180 days), and confirm the currency for refund purposes. Buyee will then generate a 10-digit reference number—this is essential. Be sure to include it when sending money via Wise, or your payment cannot be matched to your wallet.

Using Your Wallet Balance for Bids & Orders

Once your deposit is confirmed (typically within a few hours to a day), the funds will show in your Buyee Wallet balance. You can then use them for:

  • Bidding on auctions – directly use your wallet balance when bidding on high-priced items.
  • Placing shopping orders – select Buyee Wallet as the payment method at checkout for eligible orders.

Buyee Wallet is only available for items over 900,000 yen. The system will automatically display it as a payment option if your item qualifies.

Refunds, Holds, and Wise Fees

If your bid doesn’t win or your order is canceled, the funds are held temporarily in an “On Hold” status. You’ll have 7 days to decide whether to return the held amount to your wallet or request a refund via Wise. If you take no action, the system will automatically move the amount back into your wallet balance on the 8th day.

For full or partial refunds, Buyee will return the money to your Wise account using the original currency and details you provided. Please note that:

  • Refunds over 1 million yen will be split into smaller amounts for legal compliance.
  • Any Wise transaction fees will be deducted from your refunded amount.
  • If no deposit is completed within 14 days after applying, the deposit request is voided automatically.

Wise offers transparent fees and uses mid-market exchange rates, making it significantly cheaper than traditional bank wires. However, Buyee cannot assist with Wise-related issues—you’ll need to contact Wise support directly.
