Overview of Buyee’s Four Plans
Buyee offers four service plans to customize your level of protection and inspection when buying from Japan. These plans let you decide how much security you want, balancing costs with peace of mind. The options include:
- Recommended Standard Plan: A combination of insured delivery and item inspection, offering the highest level of coverage for a modest fee.
- Insured Delivery Plan: Focused on protecting against damage or loss during international shipping.
- Inspection Plan: Ensures Buyee checks color, size, and quantity before shipping, catching obvious errors.
- Lite Plan: No additional checks or insurance—perfect if you’re confident in the seller and willing to take on the risk to save money.
Fees are very affordable: typically 500 yen (~$5) for Standard or Insured Delivery, 300 yen (~$3) for Inspection, and free for the Lite Plan.
What the Standard Plan Covers
The Standard Plan is Buyee’s most popular choice, combining two safeguards in one:
- Item inspection at the warehouse: Buyee staff will check your order to verify it matches the color, size, and quantity listed in the product description.
- Delivery insurance: If your item arrives damaged or is lost in transit, Buyee will refund you based on their coverage policies.
This plan is best if you’re ordering collectibles, electronics, or anything high value where mistakes or shipping mishaps would be costly.
When to Choose Insured Delivery or Inspection Only
You might opt for the Insured Delivery Plan if you’re primarily concerned about international shipping risks but trust the seller to send the right item. This plan focuses solely on compensating for losses from transit accidents.
The Inspection Plan, meanwhile, is ideal if your biggest worry is receiving the wrong color, size, or quantity—especially common with apparel and shoes. However, it doesn’t include shipping insurance, so if the package is damaged en route, you wouldn’t be covered.
For small, inexpensive, or easily replaceable items, many buyers pick the Lite Plan to avoid extra fees altogether.
Important Limitations and Non-Refundables
There are a few key restrictions across all plans:
- Application window: You must apply for any compensation within 14 days of the package’s arrival at your address.
- Customs duties: These are never refunded by Buyee plans, even if the package is later returned or compensated for damage.
- Non-coverage examples: Plans don’t cover internal malfunctions (like with used electronics), authenticity concerns on brand-name goods, or assembly-related issues (such as flat-pack furniture).
Also note, Buyee will not replace items or resend a new one—they provide refunds only. It’s wise to read each plan’s fine print to ensure it matches your purchase type and risk tolerance.
