Service fees: 500 JPY per item
ZenMarket’s standard service fee is beautifully simple: it’s just 500 JPY for each item you add to your cart, no matter if it’s a 300 yen manga or a 300,000 yen watch. This makes it quite transparent compared to some competitors who charge by total value or percentage. This flat fee covers ZenMarket placing the order on your behalf, handling the Japanese communication, and ensuring the item reaches their Osaka warehouse.
Deposit handling fees (1%-3.5%)
When you add money to your ZenMarket account, there’s a small deposit handling fee that depends on how you pay. For example, PayPal might charge around 3.5%, Wise transfers closer to 1%, and crypto payments may vary slightly based on market conditions. The reason this fee exists is to cover the cost of processing international payments and currency conversion into yen. ZenMarket displays these rates clearly before you complete the deposit.
Domestic shipping inside Japan
Most sellers on Yahoo Auctions, Rakuten, or small Japanese shops require paying local shipping fees to get your purchase to ZenMarket’s warehouse. This domestic fee is typically anywhere from 100 to 1,500 yen. Some major marketplaces like Amazon Japan may offer free shipping inside Japan, but it depends on the item and seller. ZenMarket updates your order status with these charges once confirmed, so there are no surprises.
International shipping & insurance
When you’re ready to ship your parcel abroad, ZenMarket provides a detailed invoice based on weight, dimensions, destination country, and your chosen carrier (EMS, DHL, FedEx, or others). Light small packets might only cost 1,200 JPY, while large, heavy boxes can reach 10,000 JPY or more. Basic insurance is included for most carriers, and ZenMarket also offers free consolidation, meaning you can group multiple orders into a single parcel to save on shipping costs.
Other charges: digital items, cancellations, storage fees
- Digital goods fee: If you buy items like eBooks or software keys, there’s an extra 10% fee because these cannot be physically consolidated or verified.
- Cancellation fee: Canceling after ZenMarket has already placed the order generally incurs a 1,000 JPY charge to cover their efforts and penalties from the seller.
- Storage fees: ZenMarket gives you 60 days of free storage. After that, it costs 50 JPY per day per item, encouraging timely parcel creation.
